PM Douglas leads delegation to CELAC meeting in Cuba

Basseterre, St. Kitts (CUOPM) – St. Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas is leading the Federation’s delegation to the Second Meeting of the Community of Caribbean and Latin American States (CELAC).

The January 27th to 29th meeting is taking place in Havana, Cuba.

Other members of the St. Kitts and Nevis delegation are Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Patrice Nisbett, Cabinet Secretary, Mr. Joseph Edmeade and Foreign Service Officer, Ms. Verna Morris.

Minister Nisbett, already in Havana, was among Foreign Ministers of the Community of Latin America and Caribbean States who began meetings today, discussing working documents for final decision by the regional bloc.

The meeting of foreign ministers will be followed by the summit of heads of state and government on January 28 and 29.

CELAC was discussed in February 2010, at the Rio Group–Caribbean Community Unity Summit, and inaugurated on Dec ember 2011, in Venezuela, with the signing  of The Declaration of Caracas.

CELAC consists of 33 sovereign countries in the Americas, but excludes Canada and the United States.
