Police Chief: ‘I am here to serve and protect’

Commissioner of Police, Mr. C. G. Walwyn

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 5TH 2012 (CUOPM) – Commissioner of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Mr. C. G. Walwyn has expressed his determination to “serve and protect” and to “take the streets back.”

“Some people are upset over the way that I am operating. As long as I am not violating anybody’s civil rights, I will do whatever it takes to take back these streets. If you don’t like it, I cannot help you, but that is the way it is in this federation. If you commit a crime I am putting you in jail,” said Commissioner Walwyn who assumed command of the law enforcement agency in September.

Ask about the situation with regard to the gangs in St. Kitts and Nevis during an interview on Nevis’ Choice FM on Thursday morning, Mr. Walwyn said:

“The police are out to take the streets back. You will always have gangs, but we also have a law here that says, if we know who you are, we do have the right now to lock you up. If they want to be out there and act stupid, that’s on them.

As a matter of fact I have some of them in jail right now. People are complaining but as I have said, they can complain all they want. I am going to protect this federation by any means necessary. If you act right, you are free to do what you want, if you act stupid, I am going to lock you up.”

Commissioner Walwyn said he is always available to the public and can be contacted at 662-2145.

“If you have any issues and don’t want to talk to anyone else about, they can call me any time of the day. I don’t mind answering my phone,” said Commissioner Walwyn.

“I am here to serve and protect and that is what my aim is,” said the top law enforcement officer.

He used the opportunity to congratulate the general public for their behaviour during the just concluded Christmas/Carnival season.
