Police Investigating Shootings

(ZIZ News) – Just days after the Acting Police Commissioner, Stafford Liburd, praised residents of and visitors to St. Kitts and Nevis for their behaviour during Carnival, the force’s Public Relations Department is reporting that the Violent Crimes Unit is investigating two shooting incidents.

ZIZ News understands that the first occurred on Friday night at about 8.50 on West Independence Square Street, in the vicinity of the Horsfords Furniture Showroom in Basseterre, and the second occurred about 3.25am on Saturday (January 2) in the vicinity of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on the island’s main road in Cayon.

According to a release, in the first incident, “a 23 year old male was shot by an unknown assailant who fired a single gunshot” at him.

He was reportedly transported to the J. N. France General Hospital by a police vehicle, and has been treated for his injuries.

The release on the Saturday morning incident also did not name the victim but referred to him as “a 25 year old male who was a passenger in a vehicle with two other persons.”

He was reportedly “shot by an unknown assailant(s)” and is currently being treated for his injuries.
