Restaurant Week 2017 Media Launch Held

(ZIZ News) — Tourism authorities and government ministries partnered to host the 3rd Annual St. Kitts And Nevis Restaurant Week, with a media launch at the Department of Agriculture’s Conference room on Tuesday.

The Ministries of Tourism, Agriculture, The St. Kitts And Nevis Tourism Authorities and the St. Kitts And Nevis Hotel and Tourism Association, will be partnering with local restaurants to facilitate the week of activities.

In his welcome address, Director in the Department of Agriculture, Melvin James explained the purpose of hosting restaurant week.

James said “Restaurant Week helps to create resilience in livelihoods in the Federation with a greater trust on linkages with Agriculture and Tourism”.

During his brief address, General Manager of the Ocean Terrace Inn, Chris Ghita commended the ministry of agriculture for helping to make local products more accessible to restaurants across the island.

Ghita pledged to continue partnership with Restaurant Week activities and said he appreciates how easier it has been to access local foods for his hotel. He also encouraged persons to “grow more of what we eat and asked the audience to eat more of what we grow’.

Permanent Secretary in The Ministry of Tourism, Carlene Henry- Morton encouraged persons to eat, drink, and buy local as much as they can.

She said based on her experiences, she believes that local products are just as healthy if not healthier than majority of the imported goods.

The theme ingredient for this year’s Restaurant Week was also confirmed as yam. This ingredient will be used as the main ingredient in the upcoming Restaurant Week Cook-Off Competition.

St. Kitts-Nevis Restaurant Week 2017 runs from July 19-30.
