Revamping The Police Structure

(ZIZ News) — The Police Force will be undergoing structural changes soon to improve performance and accountability.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Osmond Petty, said there are plans to launch a Service Improvement Directorate.

He said “this department is going to be responsible for ensuring that police perform at a high standard wherever they’re located. This department will ensure that police stations function as they should, that policemen are held accountable for their actions, wherever they are located.”

He said that department will work with the Legal Department to develop a code of conduct under the Police And Criminal Evidence legislation.

“It will provide codes of conduct, codes of practice for stop and search, arrest, investigation, detention, identification, interviewing detainees. And so the conduct of the police force is going to be very high on the agenda of this department; to make sure we don’t have some of the difficulties that we’re experiencing at this time,” he said.

During Wednesday’s edition of “Working For You” Petty and the members of the Police High Command tackled numerous issues including community policing, efforts at preventing and solving crime, and the Police Strategic Plan 2016 to 2019.
