ZIZ News…Dec 22 2011 – The spirit of Christmas is already being felt by a wide cross-section of the Community, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Rotary Club of St. Kitts. The civic minded business professionals organized a series of activities in the month of December to bring “good tidings of great joy” to several residents throughout the island.

The first treat was delivered to the Cardin Home in West Basseterre on December 8th 2011. Over seventy (70) residents of the Home enjoyed the delicious Kittitian Christmas Lunch prepared and served by the members of the club with assistance from a number of local business houses. Immediately following the retreat, Rotarians raised their hearty voices in song and serenaded the very grateful audience with popular Christmas carols led by Senior Rotarian William Dore.

On December 15th 2011, the club partnered with the Department of Social and Community Development (DOSCD) and hosted the Annual Foster Children’s Party held at the McKnight Community Centre. Twenty-eight (28) children ranging in ages from five to twenty years and their parents were treated to an afternoon of entertainment that featured lively festive music, a cultural display by Sylvester’s Masquerade Troupe, and a number of traditional games. The highlight of the activity was the arrival and presentation of gifts by jolly old Saint Nick (Santa Claus), who also brought the curtains down on the successful event.

On Saturday 17th December 2011, the club members distributed twenty (20) Christmas Care Packages to shut in and elderly persons living in the Old Road area. The hampers filled with a variety of groceries, and health and personal care items were all well received by the beneficiaries who openly and warmly expressed their appreciation to the members who visited them to personally offer best wishes for the season on behalf of the Organization.

Using the 2011/12 Rotary International theme, “Reach Within to Embrace Humanity, as its mantra, the Rotary Club of St. Kitts remains committed to using its resources as a way of making a difference in the Community it serves, especially in the season of goodwill, peace and togetherness.
