Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s 2012 Spelling Bee Competition Announced

Basseterre, St. Kitts – The Rotary Club of Liamuiga’s Annual Spelling Bee Competition will be held on Thursday October 25th, 2012 at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Bird Rock commencing at 5 p.m.

Each year the Rotary Club of Liamuiga (RCL) invites public and private primary schools through St. Kitts to select students to represent their schools at this prestigious spelling competition. This year, thirteen primary schools have confirmed their participation, with several others finalizing their entrants. Confirmed are Tucker-Clarke, Dieppe Bay, Saddlers, St. Paul’s, Cayon, Dr. William Connor, Seventh Day Adventist, Epworth/Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior, Estridge, Joshua Obadiah Williams, Edgar T. Morris, Sandy Point and Newton Ground Primary Schools.

“Over the past nine years, RCL has conducted/sponsored numerous programmes for the nation’s youth. These include local and regional Primary School Spelling Bee Competitions, Computer Assisted Literacy Solutions (CALS) Training Programme for primary and high school aged children, and primary and high school Talent Search Competitions to name a few,” said RCL’s President Mr. Lester Hanley. “Further, we have initiated new ventures for youth development such as the upcoming young adult dance competition, ‘Dance Xplosion—This Is Your Chance2Dance.’

“Therefore, I encourage all the students to come out in their numbers, wearing their school t-shirts and colours and cheer on their fellow classmates.”

There is no admission fee for this year’s RCL Spelling Bee Competition.

RCL Local Spelling Bee 2011 Winner with Runners Up, Sponsors & RCL Panel

Last year’s local champion was Ms. Rheyana Davis of the Estridge Primary School who also went on to represent St. Kitts exquisitely and won the 2011 Haliborange/Rotary Club of Liamuiga Regional Spelling Bee Competition.

Major sponsors of the 2012 RCL Spelling Bee Competition are Seven Seas through their local distributor Ram’s Trading Limited, Western Union of Jamaica, LIME, Sun Top drinks (Ram’s Trading Ltd.) and ZIZ Radio and TV.

Proceeds from this event will go towards Rotary Club of Liamuiga youth and community development projects.
