SCASPA Appoints new CEO

Basseterre, St. Kitts – May 15, 2012 (SCASPA): A new Chief Executive Officer has been appointed at the St. Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA). Mr. Jonathan Bass assumes this top leadership position with effect from Wednesday, May 16, 2012.

With a career in financial management and accounting that spans over twenty years, Mr. Bass brings significant expertise and experience to his new leadership role at SCASPA where he will lead the continuing transformation of SCASPA into a financially-viable and market-oriented Corporation. Bass gained much of his professional experience at the regional telecommunications giant, LIME (formerly Cable and Wireless), where he held various local and regional positions over the last thirteen years. His most recent positions were Regional Finance Project Manager and Company Secretary. Prior to joining LIME he served as Financial Controller at Delisle Walwyn and Company Limited. He also worked at TDC where he held the positions of Assistant Manager of the Rentals Department and Credit Controller.

Bass is a graduate of the Basseterre High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts (B.A. Hons.) degree in Accounting from the University of the Virgin Islands. He is a Certified Public Accountant and Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. According to Mr. Carol Evelyn, Chairman of the Board of SCASPA, “Mr. Bass was selected from several impressive applicants, most of whom are resident overseas. A valuable blend of his professional qualifications, leadership experience, and familiarity with the needs of SCASPA and its customers helped make him the most suitable choice.” Chairman Evelyn further pointed out that the incoming CEO brings a vital combination of practical managerial and market-sensitive skills which will be crucial to his role at SCASPA.

Over the past eighteen months SCASPA has been undergoing a major reorganization, designed to improve its operations and customer focus. A restructuring of SCASPA’s debt portfolio and lowering of its fixed costs have also been critical highlights of this program. The Board of SCASPA, along with its affiliate Ministry of Tourism & International Transport, have welcomed the appointment of Jonathan Bass as he takes on the leadership responsibilities and key challenges related to this important national statutory corporation.
