Section of Fort Thomas Hotel damaged by fire

ZIZ News…May 26 05 2011 – The Fort Thomas Hotel one of the first Hotels to be established on the island was the focus of attention on Wednesday afternoon (May 25) when smoke was seen coming from a section of the building located at Fortlands.

The hotel has been out of operation for several years and members of the St. Kitts Nevis Defence Force occupied a section of the property from time to time.

The Fire and Rescue Services responded to the scene and went about their business of extinguishing the fire which had a thick cloud of smoke coming from the rooms at the western section of the building.

According to a source at the Fire and Rescue Services the damage was limited to the inside of the building where the walls were badly scorched and some of the contents were burnt.

The Fire and Rescue services are carrying out enquiries as to the exact cause of the fire.

The Fort Thomas Hotel was the first venue of the St. Kitts Music Festival when it started fifteen years ago.
