Seven ‘SKN’ Law Enforcement Professionals complete RSS Staff and Command Course
(RSCNPF): Seven Law Enforcement professionals from St. Kitts and Nevis were amongst a group of twenty one (21) officers who graduated from the Regional Security System Training Institute (RSS-TI) Staff and Command Course on Thursday (July 14). The course was held at the Ocean Terrace Inn in St. Kitts and Nevis and began on June 6.
The six week course is designed to prepare senior officers from the various law enforcement organizations who are likely to be deployed in command of an RSS Task Force or as part of a Joint Staff Headquarters.
It is designed to prepare Police Officers and other Law Enforcement senior officers to perform Staff functions of a general nature that are appropriate to their ranks and to provide the foundation for their subsequent professional development. It is also designed to further develop the management and operational command skills of these officers and to provide transferable academic and research knowledge and skills to officers who may wish to further their academic development.
According to the RSS overview, the training objectives included helping officers to develop strategic awareness, to develop operational command skills, to think and solve problems logically, make decisions, and utilize effective communications in their roles as leaders. Training was provided to help the officers better understand and apply the principle techniques and the doctrine of joint police and military operations. Additionally, the class participants were provided with the necessary tools to better understand the functions of the Command and Staff work of the RSS Headquarters.
Course participants represented law enforcement partners in the Police, Fire, Customs and Immigration services from across the RSS member states of Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and host country St. Kitts and Nevis.
The most outstanding student was Senior Customs Officer Ms. Karen Forsyth of Grenada. Superintendent McCarta Browne of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police received the “Spirit of the Course” award.
The participants from St. Kitts and Nevis were, Superintendent Diana Mills (RSCNPF), Superintendent McCarta Browne(RSCNPF), Inspector Gwendolyn Duncan (RSCNPF) and Prison Officer Desmond Solis (HMP). Three officers of Her Majesty’s Customs, Osbert France, Desroy Daniels and Gregory Davis also completed the course.
