ZIZ News…Dec 24, 2011 – The soca monarch competitions were keenly contested but only two were crowned.

Shakki Starfire and Mighty Takeover scored the highest with the judges following their star studded performances at the Beaumont Park Soca Monarch finals on Friday night, the first event for CARNIVAL 40:40 held at the Sugar Mill Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

Shakki won the groovy segment with her song ‘Party Plenty’. She made an appearance as a masquerade then wowed the crowd by performing effortlessly on Mocko Jumbie Stilts.

Her performance was scored the highest followed by Ali Dee as 1st runner-up and Stitch in time as 2nd runner-up. There was a tie for the second runner up position between Konris and Stitch in Time but after they threw out the highest and lowest scores Stitch in Time edged him out for the spot.

The last performer on stage for the power category was the Mighty Takeover. He brought life to the stage as he paraded the grounds with friends bearing flags. This performance allowed him to capture the Power Monarch title.

1st runner up in the power category was Stitch in Ttime performing Party Hearty and 2nd runner up was Might Honesty performing ‘Stupidness’.

The next event will be the National Carnival Queen Pageant, a highlight of national carnival over the forty years, and will take place on Tuesday December 27.
