SKELEC: Seven Minute Unscheduled Island Wide Outage

Basseterre, St. Kitts (March 9, 2012) — The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) disclosed on Friday, that all of its customers were affected by an unscheduled seven-minute island wide electricity supply outage.

“At approximately 11:50am, there was an island-wide electricity supply outage. Restoration of electricity supply began at 11:57am. We apologise for the unscheduled interruption of supply. A subsequent report will be made as soon as information regarding the interruption of supply is downloaded from the generation plant and analysed,” stated Public Relations Officer Gawain Fraites.

The St. Kitts Electricity Company Limited (SKELEC) commenced operations on August 1, 2011 and is the sole provider of electricity supply to consumers on the island on St. Kitts.
