Spectacular performance by female Drum Major, Band hailed

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, SEPTEMBER 27TH 2012 (CUOPM) – The performance of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force Band during last week’s Ceremonial Parade to mark the 29th Anniversary of the Federation’s 29th Anniversary has come in for high praise from Prime Minister the Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, local officials and visiting diplomats from several nations.

The 55-member band led by its spectacular Drum Major, Corporal Gizelle Williams and Bandmaster Lt. Sylvester Charles warmed the hearts of thousands of spectators and officials who watched from the stands at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium or watched the live broadcast on television. Director of the Band is Captain Nigel Williams.

During the Independence Toast at Camp Springfield several visiting diplomats told Prime Minister Douglas they were extremely pleased with the professionalism of all the units on Parade.

Many of them singled out the performance of Corporal Williams, the first female Drum Major and youngest person in the twin-island Federation.

The Independence Drum Corps was one of the largest units on Parade with an anticipating.

Prime Minister Douglas has expressed thanks to the Band for their splendid performance during the Ceremonial Parade and indicated that an event will be planned to show his appreciation.

There are 32 senior members, 13 females and 23 boys in the Band.
