Red Cross Release…May 5, 2010 – The St.Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society embarked upon a major fund raising effort in the aftermath of the terrible earthquake that occurred in Haiti on January 12th 2010.

An account was established at the RBTT Bank in the Federation #2604000000014247 and was officially closed on the 30th April 2010.

On February 15th 2010 with an account Balance of 116,166.73$ EC, a wire transfer of 41,000$ US was sent to the International Appeal organized by the International Red Cross. Further contributions to the account were made and on the 30th April 2010 the closing balance stood at 57,780.38 $ EC. This would enable our Society to make the final wire transfer of approximately 21,238.72$ US leaving a zero balance on the account.

Our Total contribution to the International appeal would therefore stand at 62,238.72 $ US coming from contributions to the account totaling 169,173.28 $ EC.

We are indeed grateful to all those groups, organizations, business entities and the general public at large for the outpouring of support in the hour of need for the people of Haiti.

We would like to remind the general public that the work of the Red Cross continues, as we strive to assist as many people as we can, who, as a result of disasters(e.g fires, hurricanes etc) found themselves in extreme difficulty. We also provide a hot meal twice weekly for a number of elderly shut-in and this program has been in existence for over fifteen years.

We however would not be able to respond to these various difficult situations without the support of the general public. We are therefore looking for your continued support in kind through donations to our general disaster account, or with your time, by becoming a volunteer member with the Red Cross.
