St. Kitts/ Nevis places second in OECS meet
Sports Page— The revived OECS athletic games were held at the Silver Jubilee Stadium in St. Kitts, last weekend.
It was an event which attracted top athletes from around the region and the crowd on hand was highly entertained.
At the end of the day, it was the St. Lucia team that walked away victorious, with host St. Kitts and Nevis placing a close second.
The final results were:
1st St. Lucia—5 gold; 2 silver; 6 bronze
2nd St. Kitts/Nevis—4 gold; 6 silver; 7 bronze
3rd Grenada—3 gold; 3 silver
4th Antigua/Barbuda-2 gold; 3 silver; 3 bronze
5th British Virgin Islands—2 gold; 3 silver; 1 bronze
6th St. Vincent & the Grenadines-2 gold; 2 silver 3 bronze
7th Dominica-1 gold; 1 silver; 1 bronze
8th Anguilla-1 gold
Some of the outstanding performances during the event included:
Meritzer Williams of Nevis placed third in the 100 meters females’ event
Daniel Bailey of Antigua/Barbuda won the men’s 100 meters
Emron Gibbs of Grenada won the javelin —69.40 meters
Adrian Williams of Nevis placed 4th in the javelin with a throw of 66.86 meters—a new national record and two meters above previous record which he set at the Martinique Carifta games
The St. Kitts-Nevis female team won the 4 X 100 meters relay. The team included Meritzer Williams.
