St Kitts Participates in Sustainable Tourism Council Pilot Program

(ZIZ)–St. Kitts is among destinations selected to participate in the Global Sustainable Tourism Council Early Adopter Program.

Senior Director of Destinations for Sustainable Travel International, Kathleen Pessolano says the Global Sustainable Tourism Council is the leading standard setting organization on sustainability in travel.

She says, “They have just released their new sets of criteria which are guidelines that they suggest destinations should have in place. St. Kitts was the first destination in the Caribbean and one of less than 15 in the world to pilot these criteria.”

Ms Pessolano says GSTC members are some of the largest travel and tourism companies in the world and being a part of this pilot program gives St Kitts and Nevis the perfect opportunity to get its name out there.

“All of the GSTC members are informed that St Kitts and Nevis is one of the early adaptors of this destination sustainability set of criteria and cares about sustainable destination management,” she says.

Pessolano says sustainability in tourism is one of the major factors modern tourists look for when deciding where to take vacation.
