Strict measures put in place by the Police for the Christmas and Carnival season

ZIZ News…Dec 18, 2012 — The Police have issued some guidelines outlining a number of safety measures for carnival 2012/2013.

A release issued today by the Press and Public Relations Officers Inspector Lyndon David stated that it will effectively police all known Carnival activities within the Federation so as to ensure a safe and secure atmosphere for all citizens and visitors during the Christmas and Carnival Season.

The main objectives are to prevent and detect crime, maintain public order and safety in and around the Carnival City and other Carnival events/areas and identify and address all matters of public safety within the context of the law.

In particular reference to weapons the release stated that only members of the Security Forces are allowed to have fire arms in their possession and no weapon of any type will be permitted in the bands (sticks, knives, machetes, metal and plastic pipes, etc).

Other restrictions are no glass bottles or other glass containers will be allowed, vendors are required to sell their drinks in plastic cups, members of the public will not be allowed to wear camouflage uniforms or any clothing similar in appearance to that used by the Security Forces, violence will not be tolerated; persons behaving disorderly or carrying offensive weapons will be arrested and maybe denied bail, the bands will not be permitted to jam outside the prescribed route and patrons to the various events are encourage to subject themselves to be searched upon entering the event areas, and comply and cooperate with the officials.

The release concluded by stating all illegal substances are strictly forbidden at any of these events and Law Enforcement Officials will arrests any situation swiftly and decisively.
