Take care of the kids, PM urges

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller on Sunday urged Jamaicans to take better care of the nation’s children, noting that they are the country’s future.

The prime minister made the call while addressing the People’s National Party’s 76th annual conference at the National Arena.

Simpson Miller expressed condolences to parents of children who died tragically this year and briefly mentioned Mario Deane’s name. Deane is the 31-year-old construction workers beaten by inmates in a lock-up at the Barnett Street Police Station, in Montego Bay, and subsequently died at a hospital on August 6.

“Let us bring back the love. As Bob Marley said, one love one heart…,” Simpson Miller said as she appealed to parents and the community to “take care of the children because they are the future”.
