The Federation Joins in the Observation of Olympic Day

ZIZ News — St. Kitts and Nevis celebrated the active lifestyle of youth around the world with the international sporting community and observed Olympic values in commemoration of Olympic Day on Monday 23rd June.

Minister of Sports, Honourable Glenn Phillip, in an address marking the occasion, spoke of the importance of Olympic Day and specifically, the lasting impact of sports on people all around the world.

“Also on Olympic Day, we are shown the power of sports to conquer hate. While our world has not yet entered that period of true and lasting peace. Sports have been one of the greatest instruments of concord among the people of the world. When we celebrate Olympic Day, we celebrate the recognition of each human being as an equal, as a friend and as a brother.”

Minister Phillip further stated that the participation of the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis in the Olympic day celebrations is the government’s way of encouraging citizens to live healthy lifestyles.

Minister Phillip stated, “Olympic Day reminds us to be active, to walk, to run, to play a sport, so as to live healthier lifestyles. The government of St Kitts and Nevis and the people of this country are mindful that the health of nations in the wealth of nations. And so by joining this celebration we declare to the world and to ourselves that we will pursue healthy lifestyles.”

According to Minister Phillip, the Olympic values of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship were recognized on Monday, as are the three Olympic pillars: move, discover and learn.

The Federation officially joined the celebration of Olympic day following its debut appearance at the 25th Olympiad in 1996.
