Third international UWI Tourism Conference starts in MoBay next week

Kingston, Jamaica — Mona School of Business and Management (MSBM) is collaborating with Ryerson University of Canada to stage the University of the West Indies (UWI) 3rd International Tourism Conference next week.

The conference is scheduled for the Iberostar Rose Hall Hotel in Montego Bay from November 9 to November 11, under the theme ‘Tourism and Innovation: re-inventing, revolutionising, transforming’.

Executive Director of MSBM, Professor Densil Williams said he is “confident that the gathering of minds from this august body, will find the discourses intense but rewarding and that the area of inquiry will benefit greatly from the exchanges. The UWI and by extension MSBM pride ourself on the creation of new knowledge to advance our community and society”.

Keynote Speaker for the Conference is Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, a Strategic Management and Marketing expert with specialisation in Information Communication Technology applications in the Tourism, Travel, Hospitality and Leisure industries. Professor Buhalis is also Deputy Director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research, at Bournemouth University in England.

Other presenters include Dr Robertico Croes, Chair, Department of the Tourism, Events & Attractions and Associate Director, the Dick Pope Sr Institute for Tourism Studies, at Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

The conference, held biennially and hosted before at UWI’s Cave Hill and St Augustine campuses, will provide a forum for academics, government officials, tourism practitioners, professional associations and groups, graduate students and civil society organizations to explore and understand thematic issues relating to tourism and innovation at all levels and most importantly to develop solutions for the tourism sector, the organisers said.
