Two persons brought before the court for larceny involving tourist

ZIZ News…Feb 7, 2013 — On Wednesday 6 February 2013 at about 3:00 p.m., 18-year-old Joseph Wilkes of Trafalgar Village, Basseterre was formally arrested and charged for the offence of larceny from the person; he stole an expensive cell phone from a cruise ship tourist visiting Port Zante.

According to a police report, Wilkes was chased down and captured by members of the Joint Security Forces and the cell phone was recovered. He was formally arrested and charged, and taken to the Basseterre Magistrate Court where he was convicted and sentenced to 4 months imprisonment. Restitution of the phone was made and the tourist thanked the court and the security Forces for their vigilance and speedy dispensing of justice.

Meanwhile, St. Clair Walters of Saddler’s Village was convicted of Larceny; for stealing the Wallet and Money, property of Mr. Allan Woods, a cruise ship visitor to our island two (2) days ago.

Mr. Walters, a vendor, was selling Craft at Port Zante. Mr. Walters snatched the wallet containing over 500 pounds, U.S. Currency, Euros, and credit and identification cards out of the victim’s pocket, then left the area.

A search was conducted for Mr. Walters into the next day where he was captured yesterday (Tuesday 5 February 2013) at the R.L.B Bradshaw International Airport.

A search warrant was executed on Mr. Walters residence and the items belonging to the victim were found in the residence.

Mr. Walters was convicted by the court and banned from Port Zante and the Pelican Mall for two (2) years. If he is ever caught in the area within the prescribed time, he will be arrested.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force do not condone the actions of Mr. Walters and will arrest him on sight if he is found in the areas prescribed in his ban.
