U.S. Embassy Book Donations Planned for St. Kitts

Bridgetown, Barbados Friday, January 20, 2012 – On Tuesday, January 24, the Embassy of the United States of America to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean will make two book donations in St. Kitts.

The first presentation will be of a set of children’s books to the Tucker Clarke Primary School at 9:00 am. The donation, part of the Embassy’s Books in a Bag program, will include a selection of the books from the 2011 American Library Association’s Notable Children’s Books list, packed into wheeled duffel bags to make them easier to circulate from class to class around a school.

The literacy encouragement program has already been rolled out in Antigua, Barbuda, St. Vincent, Dominica and Barbados.

The second presentation will be of a set of books on domestic violence prevention and will take place at 11:30 am. at the Parliamentary lounge at Government Headquarters in Basseterre. Minister of Gender Affairs Marcella Liburd will attend.

Deputy Public Affairs Officer Rachael Zaspel will make both presentations on behalf of the Embassy.
