Sports Page—Friday 2nd August 2013–The 2012-2013 season was a great one for UMass Tennis as the team finished with a 16-6 record highlighted by an 8-2 conference mark and an undefeated record at home.

The season started strong in the fall with doubles and singles titles at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational held at Army. The team went 2-0 in the fall in dual matches with wins over Providence College and UConn.

The spring season started strong with a narrow loss to nationally ranked Brown followed by a good win over conference foe, Saint Joseph’s leading to a 4 match winning streak.

Other highlights of the spring season included wins over Conference rivals Fordham, Temple, and Rhode Island as the team headed into the Atlantic 10 Championships as the #3 seed. Wins over Dayton and George Washington took the team to the semifinals where they fell to #2 seed Xavier in a hard fought match.

Other season highlights included Arielle Griffin being named A-10 Rookie of the Week twice, and Yuliana Motyl and Jessica Pod-lofsky being named A-10 Players of the Week twice respectively. Motyl and Podlofsky went on to be named to the All-Conference team at the end of the season. In addition, Jocelyn Providence and Yuliana Motyl were named Academic All-Americans.

The team wrapped up the season with its Awards Banquet where Arielle Griffin was named team MVP as a freshman, Yuliana Motyl was named most improved, and Julia Comas received the Coaches’ Award for representing the spirit of UMass Tennis both on and off the court.
