University of Leicester Awards Partial Scholarship to National of St Kitts and Nevis

February 23, 2013—The University of Leicester awarded Ms Akeliah Welcome a 30 percent tuition scholarship for the value of $4000 US to pursue a Master in Finance by distance learning. This was part of a wider initiative to assist students based in the Caribbean during difficult financial times. Ms Welcome was selected based upon criteria including academic achievement, work experience and the overall contribution she can make to the field of finance studies.

Ms Welcome is currently the Financial Analyst at the Ministry of Finance in St Kitts. When Ms Welcome received the news she was appreciative of the reduction in her tuition fees. She said “When I was informed about this offer I was delighted. Words cannot express my gratitude; however, I intend to work to the best of my ability to ensure that this investment is fully utilized to further advance my qualifications in the future”.

Local representative for Education for Advancement, Ms Leah Sahely, congratulated Ms Welcome for being selected for the scholarship. She indicated, “It is not everyday that our academic partners such as the University of Leicester offers scholarships for their programmes and it is great to have someone from St Kitts and Nevis be selected from amongst the entire Caribbean region. We wish Ms Welcome every success in her studies”. She also indicated that the School of Management at the University of Leicester has agreed to offer a limited number of 30 percent tuition scholarships for candidates applying for their programmes starting in May 2013. To be considered, the applicant will need to apply and receive an offer prior to 15 March 2013.
