Workshop draws out musical talents

Instruments students learnt how to play

ZIZ Newsroom, Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 16, 2012: A number of youths from the Lodge and Ottley’s communities have gained an interest in and love for music through the recently concluded Music Mentorship workshop.

The workshop, organised by the Department of Culture was facilitated by three of the top young musicians from Music Mentorship Programme and focused on three musical instruments: the drums, bass guitar and keyboard.

Director of Culture, Creighton Pencheon, said it was specifically targeted at at-risk young boys from the Lodge and Ottley’s villages.

According to Mr. Pencheon, the participants fully enjoyed the three-day music workshop.

He said the response to the programme was great.

Some of the participants spoke of their newfound love for music, saying that it was an “honour and privilege” to be playing alongside great mentors.

The Music Mentorship Program was sponsored by the Advancement of Children Foundation.
