World Food Day Observed with week of Activities on St. Kitts

WorldFoodDay2014-1(ZIZ News) — Thursday October 16th is observed worldwide as world food day and here on St. Kitts, a week of activities has been planned to mark the observance.

Chairman of the world food day week of activities Lionel Stephens was featured as a guest on ZIZ Radio’s starting point with host G-Cue. He used the opportunity to reveal the list of activities.

“The week this year actually started on Sunday with church at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Sandy Point. The other activities for the week include this actual interview on the radio to let the general public know what is happening. Also, tomorrow at 4:30 in the afternoon, we’ll be having the annual farmers and fishers prize giving ceremony.”

Stephens then listed the activities that are planned for Friday and Saturday of this week.

“Then on Friday, we’ll be visiting two householders to try and establish some gardening areas for them so that they could carry on the whole family farming tradition…so they could also feed themselves and generate some revenue and to close off the week, on Saturday 18th down at the Sandy Point market place, there is going to be the grand world food day food fair and agriculture exhibition.”

World food day is being celebrated under the theme “Family Farming: Feeding The World, Caring For The Earth.”
