17-year-old on rape charges remanded‏ in Trinidad

Port of Spain, Trinidad (Trinidad Express) — A 17-year-old Point Fortin student charged with having sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl was denied bail when he appeared in court Tuesday.

The boy, a vocational student, appeared before senior magistrate Maria Busby-Earle-Caddle in the Point Fortin Magistrates’ Court.

The charges alleged that on a day in April and on a day in August this year the teenager had sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 14.

Police said that the incidents allegedly took place at his home.

The boy was not called upon to plead to the charges which were laid indictably by WPC Josanne Edwards of the Point Fortin CID.

Busby-Earle-Caddle remanded the boy in State custody for a criminal background trace to be conducted. The case is expected to come up for hearing today.‏
