Her Excellency, Ambassador Astona Browne was speaking at the opening of a Practical Prosecution and Proactive Law Enforcement training workshop on Monday.
She said, “I very much like the theme, ‘Practical Prosecution and Proactive Law Enforcement’ as it very aptly conceptualizes the outcome of our efforts to improve prosecution in the Federation. We cannot over emphasize the importance of exposing our officers to this type of training as we endeavour, as a Ministry, to ensure that there are opportunities for professional advancements through the development of skills and expertise so that the agencies can take advantage of the opportunities to move forward.”
The workshop was organized by the Director of Public Prosecution in collaboration with the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.
It is being facilitated by His Honour Judge Shaun Lyons, Judge Simon Carr, Specialist Prosecutor Stephanie Farrimond and Defence Advocate and Criminal Lawyer, Imran Khan.
Ambassador Browne encouraged the participants to learn as much as they can from the visiting legal professionals.
“No matter how many advanced crime detection technologies and methodologies that are at your disposal, if you lack the techniques to deliver effectively as a result of poor evidence taking or poor skills in prosecuting, the outcome of the case will be compromise. The learned and distinguished facilitators are at your disposal for the duration of this week. I reiterate that you should take advantage, full advantage, of this opportunity,” she said.
A sexual offences component of the training has been scheduled for Wednesday 21st at Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department Conference Room.
