BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JANUARY 19TH 2012 (CUOPM) – Year-long activities to mark the 285th Anniversary of the St. Paul’s Anglican Church continues this Sunday 22nd January.
It is the Feast Day of St. Vincent and will be celebrated with the first ever Acolyte Festival.
“The Feast Day of St. Vincent is January 22nd and was founded in 1915 by Vincent, who was a Deacon. He brought together all acolytes of the Anglican communion in prayer, study, and training as part as their service to the altar. Originally, this was an all-male affiliation, but in 1970, the Order opened its membership to girls and women, and in 1979, to all lay ministers involved in the sacred service,” said Deaconess Delores Gumbs.
She said that the procession will begin from the St. Paul’s Primary School to the Church. Acolytes and clergy will be vested in red and white and other lay readers will wear their special robes in the procession to the church.
Deaconess Gumbs encouraged young people to attend the Acolyte festival as it could be a “stairway of lay ministry.”
The procession will be led by the Crucifer bearing the Cross, along with the Thurifer and torch bearers wearing their respective accessories.
Acolytes from each church will be reading the lessons, and recommit their lives to their call.
The Rev. Chris Archibald will deliver the message and youths from the Church will perform a liturgical dance.
The Clergy from other Anglican churches will participate in the Service which starts at 4 p.m.
The procession begins at 3 30 pm.
