BASSETERRE: The ASPIRE Programme (Achieving Success through Personal Investment, Resources and Education) reached a milestone on October 7, 2025, with the launch of its Train the Trainers Workshop at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) in Basseterre.
Educators from Washington Archibald High School and Basseterre High School participated in this pilot session, equipping them to deliver the ASPIRE Financial Education Curriculum to students across St. Kitts.
A second session is underway in Nevis today, October 8, ensuring Federation-wide implementation.
The workshop prepares teachers to teach practical financial skills, such as budgeting, saving, and understanding credit, fostering independence among youth.
Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, speaking at the opening, emphasized the programme’s transformative potential.
“This programme ensures that our children start on the starting line—not behind it,”the Prime Minister said.
His words highlight the government’s commitment to breaking cycles of poverty through early financial education, a critical need in a nation reliant on seasonal industries like tourism.
The ASPIRE curriculum, designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, aims to empower students to make informed financial decisions. By training educators, the programme ensures these lessons are effectively integrated into schools, promoting economic resilience.
Educators and community leaders have embraced ASPIRE, recognizing its role in addressing economic challenges and fostering entrepreneurship. As St. Kitts and Nevis navigates global economic pressures, this initiative lays the groundwork for a financially savvy generation.
The programme’s expansion to more schools is planned, promising broader impact. Residents are encouraged to support ASPIRE by engaging with schools and the Ministry of Education to promote financial empowerment for the Federation’s youth.
