Basseterre Desalination Plant Ready for Testing

BASSETERRE: The Basseterre Desalination Plant is set to begin initial testing within days, marking a significant milestone in the capital’s water infrastructure development.

Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, Domestic Transport, ICT, and Post, The Hon. Konris Maynard, accompanied Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew on a recent walk-through of the facility. The plant is designed to produce 2 million gallons of fresh water daily for Basseterre and surrounding areas.

Minister Maynard announced that the first phase of testing will commence shortly, bringing the project closer to full operational capacity. The facility represents a major investment in water security for the capital region.

The minister praised Royal St. Kitts and the St. Kitts Water Services Department for their work in advancing the project to its final stages.

Once operational, the desalination plant will significantly enhance water availability in Basseterre, providing a reliable source of fresh water for residents and businesses. The facility utilizes modern desalination technology to convert seawater into potable water, addressing long-term water security concerns in the capital.

Minister Maynard emphasized the importance of the project, stating that “Water is Life and Every Drop Counts,” highlighting the government’s commitment to ensuring adequate water supply for the nation’s development and the wellbeing of its citizens.

The completion of testing phases will determine the timeline for full-scale production and distribution to the Basseterre water network.
