Basseterre High School Job Fair Draws Hundreds

BASSETERRE: Hundreds of locals turned out for a job fair at the CUNA Conference Centre on Thursday, April 9, 2026, as recruitment ramps up for the new Basseterre High School construction project.

Developers Preconco Ltd. and Imagine Developments hosted the event to connect Kittitians and Nevisians with immediate and upcoming work opportunities on the long-awaited campus at Victoria Road. Vet Khan of Preconco told ZIZ News that excavation, formwork, and heavy concrete work are already underway, with pre-cast materials arriving from Barbados.

“We wanted to open the job fair to locals to invite them to come and be part of this project,” Khan said. “It’s a great honour for us to be building this for the people of St. Kitts, and we really wanted local hands and labour involved.”

Positions on offer include crane operators, truck drivers, logistics staff, general workers, and roles in concrete, masonry, and steel works. The project also welcomes those without prior experience but with a strong willingness to learn, offering valuable skills development in an innovative pre-cast building method expected to speed up construction and improve efficiency.

Khan noted that materials are being shipped in flat racks from Barbados, unloaded at the port, and trucked to site — creating extra jobs for port workers, drivers, and logistics teams. Both men and women are encouraged to apply across all areas.

The finished climate-smart campus will feature modern academic infrastructure, a large auditorium, and international-standard athletic facilities. Government officials have pledged that around 90 percent of the workforce will be local, making this a major boost for employment and skills transfer in the Federation.

For many residents, the project carries deep meaning. Generations of Kittitians and Nevisians attended the original Basseterre High School, and the new facility represents a clear investment in quality education and future opportunities for our youth.

Construction is progressing steadily, with more roles expected to open in the coming months. Those who missed the job fair are encouraged to stay connected through the developers or the Ministry of Education for future opportunities.
