Mitcham and Sommersall shine as teams book Under-14 championship clash
BASSETERRE: The stage is set for an exciting Under-14 High School Football Championship final as Basseterre High School Stormers and Cayon High School Falcons secured convincing semifinal victories.
BHS dominated Charles E. Mills Secondary School 7-1 in the opening semifinal, with Peardrella Player of the Match Alijah Mitcham scoring twice to lead the rout. Yusang Chin, Michaiah Richards, and Jejaun Matthew each contributed goals, while CEMSS added an own goal to their misery. Niquanje Thompson managed the lone consolation goal for CEMSS.
The second semifinal belonged entirely to Cayon’s Jonathan Sommersall, who earned Peardrella Player of the Match honours with a stunning hat trick in their 3-0 victory over Washington Archibald High School. His complete performance shut out the opposition and booked Cayon’s place in the final.
The championship match between Basseterre High and Cayon High will kick off at 5pm on Wednesday, December 3rd at Warner Park. Both teams demonstrated attacking prowess in their semifinal victories, promising an entertaining battle for the title.
The third-place match between Charles E. Mills and Washington Archibald High Schools will precede the final, beginning at 3:30pm.
With ten goals scored across both semifinals and standout individual performances from Mitcham and Sommersall, the Department of Sports Under-14 High School Football Championships has delivered thrilling action ahead of Wednesday’s decisive showdown.
