Bureau of Standards announce new regulations underway

ZIZ NEWSROOM- CF

The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards is keeping with its mandate to follow good regulatory practises.

That’s according to Head of Standardization/Air Quality at the Bureau, Jermine Mike, during Wednesday’s edition of the weekly radio and television program, “Working For You” on ZIZ radio.

He said that regulations are derived from standards but noted that as present, the Bureau is solely governed by the National Bureau of Standards Act.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards was officially established on March 8 1999 under the National Bureau of Standards Act. The Act provides for the establishment of a standard council to administer the affairs of the bureau under the ministry of international trade, industry, commerce and consumer affairs.

Mike revealed that there are two new regulations currently under development, namely packaged water and pre-packaged food labelling.

Head of Metrology, I-Ronn Audain, Head of Microbiology Department, Avicia Sweeney, Science and Research Manager, Dr. Marcus Natta and Head of Chemistry Department, Franklyn Connor were also present on the panel.
