Caines Nets Four in Newtown Goal-Fest

BASSETERRE: Sylvester Caines scored four goals as Honda Newtown United produced a stunning offensive display Monday night, defeating Bath United 8-3 in an extraordinary 11-goal thriller at the National Bank Group Technical Center.

Caines led the rout with his quadruple, while Jean Wolf Eduoard, Rene Junior Francois, Tulmul Nisbett, and Malik France also found the net as Newtown recorded their biggest victory of the season. The emphatic win keeps the title challengers firmly in second place, six points behind runaway leaders Old Road United Jets.

The eight-goal performance demonstrates Newtown’s attacking firepower and sends a clear message that they remain serious title contenders despite Old Road’s perfect record. Despite conceding three goals, Newtown’s dominance was never in doubt as they closed out Match Week Fourteen in spectacular fashion.

Sunday’s match provided drama of a different kind as Development Bank St. Peters FC earned a crucial 3-1 victory over SOL IAS Conaree FC after the match was tied 1-1 at halftime.

Rocco Brown opened the scoring for St. Peters in the 32nd minute, but Errol O’Loughlin equalized for Conaree in first-half stoppage time to send the teams level into the break. The second half belonged to St. Peters, with Dequan Joseph emerging as the hero with two late goals in the 84th and 89th minutes to secure all three points.

The victory keeps St. Peters firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot in the congested mid-table, where several teams are battling for postseason positioning.
