Celebrating the Power of a Mother’s Love

BASSETERRE: The Ministry of Health in St. Kitts recently held its Annual Breastfeeding Recognition Ceremony at the Newtown Health Centre, celebrating the remarkable commitment of mothers who have exclusively breastfed their infants for at least six months.

This event underscores the vital role breastfeeding plays in fostering the health and emotional well-being of children across the Federation, while also recognizing the resilience and dedication of these mothers.

In his address, Permanent Secretary Curtis Martin lauded the mothers for their unwavering commitment, emphasizing the profound impact of their efforts.

“Your understanding of the importance of this bond, your resilience through the challenges, and your nurturing spirit have made a lasting impact on your child’s health and emotional well-being,” he stated. His words reflect the Ministry’s commitment to promoting breastfeeding as a cornerstone of early childhood development, aligning with global health recommendations that advocate for exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life.

The ceremony also highlighted the invaluable support from community partners, with special gratitude extended to Business and Professional Women for their generous donation of breast pumps. This contribution enhances the Ministry’s efforts to provide practical support to breastfeeding mothers, ensuring they have the tools needed to continue this vital practice.

This annual event not only celebrates individual achievements but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding, including improved immunity, better nutrition, and stronger mother-child bonding. By honoring these mothers, the Ministry of Health reinforces its commitment to maternal and child health, encouraging more women across St. Kitts and Nevis to embrace breastfeeding as a powerful act of love and care.
