CPL Volunteers Praised

(ZIZ News) — The men and women who worked tirelessly to ensure the St. Kitts and Nevis leg of the 2015 Hero Caribbean Premier League was a success are being commended for their efforts.

Volunteer Coordinator for the Local Organising Committee, Noah Mills said at any given time, there were at least 50 volunteers working up to 12 hours in a row, during the tournament at Warner Park.

“They were responsible for being here at least three and a half hours before each game to accommodate the opening of the gates when we are selling tickets and allowing patrons in two hours before,” he said.

“We need to be all over the facility to make sure that the environment is safe to welcome and for patrons to enjoy the game and then thereafter, they had to go through an hour briefing at the end of every match, or a debriefing that is, so once you do the calculations for a single day with one game they are here for about 8 hours and if it’s a doubleheader they are here way past 12 hours,” he said.

Mills noted that it was important for him to highlight their contribution, primarily because they were not paid.

“I take the opportunity now and will forever take the opportunity to thank them because they have worked long and hard hours without getting paid; and I emphasize without getting paid. In many other countries, perhaps many other tournaments there are stipends at volunteers often get but with this format, they volunteered purely because of their civic duty and their commitment to the development of sports-tourism and St. Kitts-Nevis as a federation,” he said.

Minister of Sports, the Hon. Shawn Richards also commended the CPL volunteers on what he called “a tremendous job”.

“I would want to thank the volunteers and all the persons who were involved because they have done a tremendous job. I am expecting to receive a report, coming out of that report we would look to see what we have done in a good way and what we may not have done so good and then we can speak about what changes we ought to make next year,” he said.

CPL matches have now shifted to Guyana’s Providence Stadium and the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago where the finals will be staged.
