Culture Minister Reflects On Sugar Mas 49 Events

Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 30th,  2020 (ZIZ News) With Sugar Mas 49 drawing to a close, Minister of Culture, Hon. Jonel Powell reflected on the events held this year which were largely virtual due to the on-going pandemic.

He said because of the pandemic the decision to host Sugar Mas 49 was “tricky”.

The Minister was speaking at the time during an interview with Executive Director of the Culturama Secretariat, Abonaty Liburd at the St. Kitts-Nevis National Carnival’s Senior Calypso Finals competition on Tuesday.

“It was a tricky decision to make, the uncertainty that came with the Covid pandemic really had us in a position where we don’t know what we could do, what we would do, how we would do it but for me personally to have finally made it to this position to be the Minister with responsibly for carnival and my first December came around and I couldn’t have carnival just could not cut it.”
