Defence Force Launches New Combat Uniform

BASSETERRE — The St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force launched its new combat uniform today with a ceremonial parade through the capital, marking the 59th anniversary of a pivotal moment in the nation’s history.

Starting at 10 a.m., soldiers dressed in the new uniforms marched from Warner Park down Victoria Road, turning right onto Cayon Street and left onto Church Street. At 10:30 a.m., the procession halted in front of Government Headquarters, where the Hon. Prime Minister delivered remarks commemorating the occasion before the soldiers continued their route along Liverpool Row, up Fort Street, left onto Central Street, and returned to Camp Springfield.

The timing of the uniform launch coincided with June 10, which marks the 59th anniversary of the 1967 attempt to overthrow the Robert L. Bradshaw Government. By conducting the parade on this significant date, the Defence Force underscored its role in preserving national stability and sovereignty.

According to the Defence Force’s Facebook announcement, the parade route was designed to take residents and spectators through key locations in Basseterre, from Warner Park to downtown, providing citizens with the opportunity to witness soldiers in their modernized tactical gear.

The new combat uniform represents a modernization initiative for the Defence Force, reflecting updated standards in tactical design and operational readiness. The public procession served both as a showcase of the new uniforms and as a patriotic observance tied to the nation’s founding narrative and security heritage.

Residents who lined downtown Basseterre witnessed the Defence Force’s commitment to professional standards and national pride, with the ceremonial march reinforcing the organization’s central role in protecting and preserving the Federation.
