Dept. of Labour hosts Symposium

(ZIZ News) — The Department Of Labour and its world of work stakeholders, hosted a forum for dialogue on Labour Legislation and Labour-Related Matters on Thursday.

In remarks at the opening ceremony, Labour Commissioner Spencer Amory said the department hopes that such a forum will serve to bring the Labour Department and employers of the Federation to mutual understanding on issues that may arise in the workplace.

“Certainly together we’ll begin to build a bridge to facilitate the smooth transfer of information. We build a bridge so that we can develop good communication channels between the Departement of Labour and you as employers here so that we can discuss the issues that confront us so that we can come up with solutions to remedy any issues that are before us certainly before they can mushroom into anything that can prove to be inimical to the interest of all concerned,” he said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour Elvis Newton said collaboration between the department and employers will ensure success on a higher scale.

“We need to begin to address these things in a holistic way and I believe that this symposium and others that we will be having are really intended to ensure that we move into that direction where we are able to address things holistically for the advancement of the country because whether it is that you are an employer or you are an employee, the critical thing is for us to ensure that we advance the cause of St. Kitts and Nevis,” he said.

The symposium was held under the theme “Building Better Workplaces: Education In Employment Legislation”.
