Desalination Plant Enters Final Repair Phase

BASSETERRE – Work at the Basseterre Desalination Plant has moved into its final phase as the government continues efforts to strengthen the nation’s water supply.

The Water Services Department announced that a key repair involving the reinstallation of a bulkhead began on Thursday. The work is necessary to complete testing and is expected to finish by late May.

During the repair period, which is likely to last between nine and 14 days, residents in East Basseterre, Bird Rock, Frigate Bay, the Southeast Peninsula, and The Gardens can expect intermittent water interruptions, mainly between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Officials are urging consumers to conserve water during this time and to store adequate supplies for household needs.

The temporary halt in production is part of the final push to ensure reliable water service across the affected areas once the plant returns to full operation.

This latest development brings the long-awaited upgrade of the desalination facility closer to completion, promising improved water security for residents in the capital and surrounding communities.

The Water Services Department says it will provide regular updates as the work progresses and asks for the public’s patience and cooperation during the repair period.
