BASSETERRE – The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) wishes to remind the General Public and all VAT-registered businesses that the next Discounted V.A.T. Rate Days will take place on Friday, December 12, 2025, and Saturday, December 20, 2025.
On these designated days, the Value Added Tax (VAT) rate will be reduced to 5% on the sale of all vatable goods sold between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
Businesses wishing to participate in the December VAT Reduction Days are advised that applications are now open and should be submitted to the Inland Revenue Department on or before Monday, December 8, 2025. Early submission of applications is strongly encouraged to allow sufficient time for processing and to enable businesses to adequately inform their customers of their participation.
The Department also reminds applicants that:
- Only eligible VAT-registered businesses that have filed all VAT returns and settled outstanding liabilities (or made satisfactory arrangements to do so) will qualify for participation.
- The special VAT rate applies only to goods and not to services, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, or firearms and ammunition.
- For vehicle sales, the 5% rate will apply only to the first $50,000 of the vehicle’s value. The standard VAT rate of 17% applies to any amount above that threshold.
Businesses are encouraged to begin their preparations early to ensure smooth operations and compliance during the VAT Reduction Days. Timely application and readiness will also support the Department’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and deliver improved service to taxpayers.
