Drew Opens Landmark CARICOM Plenary

BASSETERRE — Prime Minister The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew took the chair Tuesday as the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM convened in plenary — a defining moment for the Federation and the wider Caribbean Community.

Speaking as Chairman of the historic session, Dr. Drew struck a tone of confidence and collective purpose as regional leaders and delegations gathered to confront the most pressing challenges facing the Community.

“Today, as Chair of the 50th Regular Meeting, I am proud to lead our regional leaders and delegations as we convene in plenary to address the pressing issues facing our Caribbean Community,” the Prime Minister declared.

Dr. Drew framed the milestone meeting as a testament to Caribbean unity and the region’s expanding global influence — pointing to the Federation’s recent high-level bilateral engagements, including Tuesday’s meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as evidence of CARICOM’s growing voice on the world stage.

“This milestone meeting reflects not only our unity as a region, but also the strength of our global partnerships,” he said. “CARICOM’s voice is strong. Our partnerships are expanding.”

The 50th summit — convening under the theme “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM” — is expected to produce concrete commitments on the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, food security, and regional development strategy.

For Saint Kitts and Nevis, the moment carries special weight. As the host nation and chair, the Federation is steering the Community’s direction at one of the most consequential meetings in CARICOM’s history.

“Together, we continue the work of shaping a resilient, united, and self-determined Caribbean,” Dr. Drew affirmed.
