BASSETERRE — In the days leading up to the historic 50th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government, Prime Minister and CARICOM Chairman The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew embarked on an intensive regional outreach tour — visiting four Caribbean nations in under a week.
From Nassau to Kingston, Bridgetown to Georgetown, Dr. Drew conducted face-to-face consultations with regional counterparts, reinforcing bilateral ties and sharpening the agenda ahead of the landmark summit now convening in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
The tour concluded Saturday in Guyana, where Dr. Drew met President H.E. Dr. Irfaan Ali at State House before sitting down with CARICOM Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett at the newly constructed CARICOM Residence in Georgetown.
“We had a focused and productive discussion on preparations for the upcoming Meeting,” Dr. Drew said. “The work continues — strengthening regional unity, sharpening our priorities, and moving our Community forward with purpose.”
Earlier in the week, the Prime Minister met with Barbados’ Hon. Mia Amor Mottley on the historic occasion of the Opening of Parliament following Barbados’ General Elections, attended by Dr. Drew as a gesture of regional solidarity. He also held talks with Jamaica’s Outgoing CARICOM Chair, Most Hon. Andrew Holness, alongside Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Kamina Johnson-Smith, and met with Bahamas Prime Minister Hon. Philip Davis and his Cabinet on February 18.
The breadth of the tour signals the weight St. Kitts and Nevis is placing on its chairmanship — and Dr. Drew’s conviction that personal diplomacy drives real regional progress.
