Evacuation efforts continue in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

The evacuation of citizens and residents from the red zone of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines continue, with more cruise lines and neighbouring islands poised to assist.

Royal Caribbean Cruise lines has offered three of its ships, two of which are scheduled to arrive on Friday morning. Carnival Cruise lines have also offered two of their ships, and are slated to arrive this evening.

Meanwhile, regional leaders have been stepping up to offer assistance as necessary with Premier David Burt of Bermuda being the most recent to join in extending well wishes to the people of St Vincent.

He said in a statement: “The CARICOM family is united in its desire to provide support where necessary and, like our regional partners, we continue to hope for the best.”

Premier Burt said he will personally convey this message to Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves, according to Loop Caribbean.

The National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) in Antigua and Barbuda should be conducting a final inspection of the designated sites on Friday morning that have been earmarked to house those who arrive there.
