Federation Welcomes New EU Envoy

BASSETERRE – Her Excellency Fiona Ramsey, newly appointed Ambassador of the European Union to St. Kitts and Nevis, conducted a series of high-level meetings with government officials last week week, signaling continued cooperation between the twin-island federation and the EU.

Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew welcomed Ambassador Ramsey on January 15th, describing the discussions as “constructive” and reaffirming what he called the “strong partnership” between the nations. Climate action, renewable energy, and economic transition topped the agenda.

“As a small island state, principled partnerships matter,” Dr. Drew stated, emphasizing the federation’s commitment to collaboration based on mutual respect and sustainable development.

Premier Mark Brantley also met with the Ambassador, covering wide-ranging topics including the Citizenship by Investment program, educational scholarships for young people, and Nevis’ geothermal development plans. Hemispheric security and trade expansion were also discussed.

Foreign Affairs Minister Rt. Hon. Denzil Douglas received Ambassador Ramsey on January 14th, highlighting what he described as the “longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship” spanning several years between St. Kitts and Nevis and the EU.

Dr. Douglas reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to open communication with the EU as the nation continues its push toward becoming a “Sustainable Island State.”

Ambassador Ramsey noted that global partnerships remain essential to EU engagement in the Caribbean region, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
