Fidel Castro given Serbian national order

Havana, Cuba, (CMC) — Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, has presented former Cuban President, Fidel Castro the Order of the Serbian Republic.

The order was given to the former president for his “outstanding contribution to developing and strengthening friendly relations and cooperation between Serbia and Cuba.”

“This act is a dream come true for me,” Nikolic said during the ceremony held during his visit to the island earlier this week.

While in Cuba, the Serbian president received the Order of Jose Marti, the medal of the highest state honor here.

Nikolic is the first Serbian president to visit the island since the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia. The two countries’ have had diplomatic relations since August 1943.
