First Lady Showcases Kittitian Culture to CARICOM Spouses

BASSETERRE — While regional leaders convened in plenary, the Federation’s culture and enterprise took centre stage in their own right — as Mrs. Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew hosted the spouses of fellow CARICOM leaders for an immersive celebration of Kittitian creativity.

Mrs. Ann Marie Davis, spouse of the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, and Mrs. Ave Friday, spouse of the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, joined Mrs. Prince-Drew for a programme that wove together heritage, artistry, and local entrepreneurship on the sidelines of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM.

The visits began at Caribelle Batik, where the guests explored the rich history of batik artistry, observed master craftspeople at work, and created their own batik pieces — a hands-on connection to one of St. Kitts and Nevis’s most enduring cultural traditions.

The programme then moved to Kittitian Hill, where a showcase of women-owned and women-led local businesses took the spotlight. Vendors including Imara Designs, Sassy V. Collectibles, WaxMemories Skn, and Sugar Town Organics presented clothing, accessories, and locally crafted goods — a vivid display of the Federation’s creative economy.

“It was a fitting celebration of our culture, our enterprise, and the enduring spirit of CARICOM,” Mrs. Prince-Drew said.

Also in attendance were Mrs. Shamara Morton-Maynard, Mrs. Charisse Leacock Wilkin, Mrs. Kenesha Douglas, and Ambassador Rosalyn Hazelle.

The programme offered a compelling reminder that diplomacy extends beyond the conference room — and that Saint Kitts and Nevis has much to share with the region beyond the negotiating table.
