Governor General hosts 5th formers at government house.

Basseterre, St. Kitts, September 10, 2019 (ZIZ News): 5th formers of high schools across St. Kitts were given the opportunity to dine with Governor General Sir S.W. Tapley Seaton GCMG CVO QC JP at the inaugural “Lunch with the Governor General” held at Government House on Monday.

Greeted by the Governor General, the fifth formers were treated to a 3 course meal in the presence of teachers and other invited guests.

Minister of Education Hon. Shawn Richards who also dined with the students, commended the Governor General on fulfilling his commitment of making Government House and its history more accessible to persons.

He spoke of the opportunities that the students could gain by attending the lunch with the governor general.

Sir Tapley thanked Minister Richards, noting that it is important for young persons at their age to know the right way to act in certain settings.

Following the meal the students were treated to a tour of Government House which included the Governor General’s office, the Stateroom, and the Reception Room.

Minister Richards who is also the chairperson of the independence committee announced that the governor general has stated his willingness to make the luncheon an annual event, as part of the independence celebrations.

The Governor General is expected to host a similar event on September 30th with students from Nevis.
