Hamas says it has dissolved its government in Gaza and will transfer civilian authority to a United Nations-backed technical committee under a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement.
The group said the move demonstrates its commitment to Gaza’s reconstruction after years of conflict.
However, Hamas did not say whether it would disarm or hand over security responsibilities to an international force, which remains a key part of the ceasefire arrangements.
The new technical committee, based in Cairo, will be responsible for restoring essential services and overseeing civilian affairs.
Its work will fall under the supervision of the United Nations and the Board Of Peace, a new body led by President Donald Trump with a mandate to oversee the governance and reconstruction of Gaza.
Israel dismissed the announcement, saying it had no practical significance because Hamas members would remain in their positions.
